Best Writing App to date

I have been studying Chinese for 16 years, and teaching it for more than five years. This is hands-down not only the best Chinese writing app that exists for iPhone, its the best tool for learning to write Chinese characters in general. The fact that you can create your own packs to study from makes it invaluable. Theres plenty you can do with the free version, but the expansion packs are also reasonably priced. I hope this never goes away.

Great for learning to write! Please allow custom packs.

At first I thought this app wouldnt be terribly useful. It seemed kind of lame (What? Characters falling? Huh?) but then I tried the free version and was hooked. You get more points for writing faster. This is best for reviewing characters you already know and can read. It will help gain fluency in writing and using correct stroke order (and its fun). But you have to pay for each set of new characters and you cant customize it. When I can play this game with vocabulary from my Integrated Chinese textbook (or whatever else), Ill give it 5 stars!

Fantastically Useful

Im loving this app! Everything about it is great! A suggestion: Traditional characters. Just simplified isnt what Im looking for.

Pretty Good

Needs to add an option to learn traditional characters (instead if just simplified) Fun and great for learning stroke order. Also pronounces characters outputs in the practice mode, which is helpful.

Pros: Nice clean and fun app. Good way to help learn characters. Cons: Add-on$$$ for more characters, no option to add your own.

Love it.

This app has quickly become my go-to app for when Im trying to learn new Chinese characters and their meanings. Sure you could look through a dictionary and find a couple new words that you didnt already know, but with this, youre barraged with new characters that you can either learn by playing the game, or by learning/practicing as you write them. Again, this app is amazing. Im in my fourth year of learning Chinese, and all of the expansion packs are a great help to expand my vocabulary.

Amazing

I started using this app about a week ago. And I am so glad I loaded it because it is amazing. It allows me to quickly memorize and recognize chinese characters and their stroke order. Thanks so much to the creator.

A recommendation!

Great app! It would be great to have an option in which, from the characters purchased, the user has the option to create a personally-set list of characters to practice at once. I am in a Chinese course right now, and the characters that this app provides are consistent with the ones taught in my course. It would be wonderful if I could make a list of the characters from the ones I have purchased that matches the list if characters used in my class for each lesson.

Impressive

Excellent free app. Appeals to and works for all ages.

Great way to learn

Ive been trying to improve my Mandarin literacy. This is one of the most fun ways to do it. This game teaches by barraging the player with words to trace. Stroke order matters most! Thats what my problem is, so this app is perfect for me!

Try it youll like it ;D

It is a great study app for my Chinese class.

I like it.

Pretty much, I like everything, about it. Make, one app, for, Zhuyin. Please, cause this app, is rad. I go, left handed, and right. I need the one for, Zhuyin, cause, that, I can use, everyday, spelling, English.

Amazing app!

Thanks to this app, Im addicted to learning characters! Only suggestion I would make is to make the order of apearance of characters more randomized because most of the time, when I play several times, I end up encountering only about select 50 characters of a set of 150 over and over.

We LOVE this app!

This is a fantastic way to learn! Our whole family uses it! Xiexie!

Fantastic

guys! This is the best app iPad created.

Love it!!!!!!!!

Being Chinese myself, I think this is great. If you write outside the lines it will help you. Get this now!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great! but can be improved

Awesome app and highly recommended for those serious about learning to write characters. A couple of suggestions: 1) in the study and practice section allow the character order to be edited. 2) allow for more than just single characters to be searched and practiced. These changes would truly put this app over the top!

Stroke order

Great app! It would be even better if the stroke order wasnt so rigid; there is sometimes more than one accepted stroke order for certain characters.

Fun

Havent played a fun and challenging game in a while, this one will tire your finger out.

Parents, if you really want your children write Chinese, buy the full pack

I am a Chinese teacher in New Jersey, USA. This app is very helpful to my students. In the past I used to demonstrate each character stroke by stroke on the blackboard but they hardly pay attention. I gave them assignment to write each character 20 times but they were all complaining. Now things have totally changed. Before each class, I do the following: 1 Use "Search for Character" to put together my own search pack According to the vocabulary list in that lesson. 2 Use "Browse and Practice" to demo each character once 3 Play the game My students all love this app and compete for the highest score. For 20 minutes, they all huddle around my iPad and watch attentively and wait for their turn. when the twenty minutes is up, they even ask for playing a little longer! In doing so they all learn the correct stroke order and even Help each other when someone got stuck during the game. As a result they remember how to write the difficult characters without looking at the textbook first. Now they are confident and eager to impress their American Classmates how good they are. This app is a wonderful gift and great investment for Those who really want to learn writing Chinese. (If you can write Chinese, you can read Chinese, too. Thats the most difficult part of learning Chinese.) Heartily recommend it. ========== Oh, another important point is Ask your kids to pronounce loudly while writing the character. The lady speaks perfect Madarin, the official Chinese.
